Built by Tage Frid circa 1948 as a thank you gift for assistance given to he and Prip in their transition from Copenhagen to the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.
The letter seen in the images that accompanies the piece was written by the son of the cabinet’s original recipient to Dr. Christopher D’Amanda who acquired the piece in the 1970s. We’ve acquired the piece from the estate of Dr. Christopher D’Amanda who retired.
Tage Frid did not sign all of his pieces. As this was a gift, it is among the pieces that are unsigned. We followed it’s lineage through Dr. D’Amanda to the inheritor of the original recipient who sent the included letter to Dr. D’Amanda upon the news of Tage’s passing along with some articles which are also included.
We have also reached out to two very reputable galleries who are confident the piece is an original Tage Frid.
The original key is not present. However it was an antique key and not very unique. A replacement key can be located.
